Sherman Creek River Cleanup Fest 2010
I am very excited about tomorrow's event involving a festival celebrating "National River Cleanup Month". My students, who just graduated from 8th grade to high school, volunteers from my group Friends of Sherman Creek, OF Urban Ministry from Primera Iglesia Bautista Hispana de Manhattan, as well as many volunteers from other fellow Harlem River Working Group organizations will participate. On Saturday, June 26,2010 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm we will conduct a general cleanup of the Sherman Creek Waterfront Parks of 202nd,203rd, and 204th in Northen Manhattan.After that there will be many environmental activities ranging from catch and release fishing, courtesy of our Trout in the Classroom friend John Fisher, from the Long Island chapter of Trout Unlimited,rowing on the Harlem River,with the Urban Divers Environmental Conservancy(UDEC), and our Friends of Brook Park,as wellas a Raptors exhibit by my very good friend falconeer and founder of UDEC Ludger Balam. We will also exhibit our student-built wooden boat, "Boca Chica".It will a great day to celebrate the ending of the school year and the begining of summer vacation.
